AYRO to be renamed OceanWings
AYRO, a leader in Wind Assisted Ship Propulsion (WASP) systems has introduced a comprehensive Wingsail portfolio designed to meet the cargo needs of ships of most types and sizes. The new name is OceanWings.
The rebranding follows a successful design, production and commercialisation phase over the past six years, concluding in 2023 with the launch and subsequent commercial operation of the Canopée RORO freighter, equipped with four fuel-saving OceanWings® Wingsails.
The new product range ensures that OceanWings® are now available to most ship owners, in different segments (including tankers, bulkers, PCTC, cruise ships) and vessel sizes.
Two-Flap Variable Camber
The semi-rigid and new rigid OceanWings® share the same unique “two flap variable camber” design – including the Wingsail base and boom – already proven to deliver fuel savings in most operational scenarios and environmental conditions. The OceanWings® product line also features a “safety-by-design” signal function, which automatically protects the OceanWings® and the vessel when wind or sea conditions exceed certain thresholds.
Lowering and reefing
The OceanWings product range now also includes crucial configuration options such as a tilt mechanism to meet clearance height requirements, and a lift mechanism designed specifically for container ships to meet port operation constraints while minimising the impact on container capacity. OceanWings remains the only solution on the market that offers a lowerable / reefable design, which is a critical feature for vessels where tilting is not an option.
Competitive pricing
Rigid OceanWings® are made from the same modern composite materials using the same manufacturing processes as wind turbine blades. This offers advantages in resilience and longevity and leverages a global manufacturing infrastructure for competitive pricing and the ability to scale up to large volumes. The new modular design also optimises transport and installation.
