Greenpeace begins construction of new green ship

Greenpeace wants to have a sailing action ship built at Freire Shipyard in Vigo, Spain. For financing, the organisation is still looking for funds.

The ship will come under the Dutch flag, like all ships of Greenpeace International, which is based in Amsterdam.
Greenpeace chooses a sailing ship because it is the most sustainable way of seafaring. The ship will be 75 metres long and will have more than 2,000 square metres of sail. It will be equipped with solar panels and a battery pack. Diesel-electric propulsion is being sought.

The new ship will sail out to take action against “looters and polluters at sea” In addition, Greenpeace wants to test sustainable propulsion technologies on board.

The environmental organisation will soon start a global fundraising campaign. How much money is needed has not yet been announced. The aim is for the ship to be delivered in 2027.
