Both masts placed on Neoliner Origin

With the installation of both 66-metre masts, the completion of the Neoliner Origin, which has been in development for almost 15 years, is one step closer.

This ro-ro vessel, with an impressive carrying capacity of 6,300 tonnes and 3,000 m² of sail area, is expected to be delivered in mid-2025. After that, it will mainly sail on a fixed transatlantic route between France, Canada and the US.

This will be the first commercial application of the French Solidsail concept, similar to the Aerosail system. The freely rotating masts are not stiffened and the sails consist of separate rigid panels, an unusual combination. As more deliveries of this system are planned, it will be interesting to see how it performs in practice.

Interestingly, recruitment of the future crew has already started. Interested parties can find more on Neoline’s LinkedIn page.
