Major e-SAILs on juice tanker
Four 26-metre-high eSAILs have been installed on the juice tanker Atlantic Orchard. Owner Wisby Tankers AB, Sweden, had the sails installed during its scheduled 10-year inspection at Astander Shipyard, Santander, Spain.
When the 2014-built vessel, which was originally a dry bulk vessel before being converted in 2020, enters service, it will be able to benefit from simplified FuelEU Maritime compliance, using the Wind Reward Factor, with further Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) and additional regulatory benefits.
Depending on the trade routes, the vessel will now benefit from savings in fuel consumption and emissions estimated to be around 10 per cent, which also brings commercial benefits. […]
Payback in five years
Bound4blue eSAILs have a typical payback period of less than five years and are suitable for new construction or conversion in a wide range of vessel segments. This includes, but is not limited to, tankers, bulkers, RoRos, cruise ships, ferries, gas tankers and general cargo vessels. Recent orders have been received from shipping companies such as Maersk Tankers, Marflet Marine, Eastern Pacific Shipping and Klaveness Combination Carriers.
The project with Atlantic Orchard is funded by the European Union under grant agreement No 101103465 of the Innovation Fund programme.
