Angela Brandsma and her team never give up
Angela Brandsma and her team reached Australia in the Clipper round the world race. For a long time, they sailed in the lead until the watermaker broke down.
”I can’t believe it, but I made it to Australia,” said Angela Brandsma after crossing the finish line at the Clipper Round the World Race after 22 days, 12 hours and 51 seconds of sailing.
”It was a very eventful race where we were competing at the front when the water maker broke down and we ended up having to do a transfer with Unicef clipper team.” It cost Angela’s team a good ranking. ”But that’s part of it,” said the down-to-earth Frisian, skipper of Team Power of Seattle Sports.
”I am super proud of the resilience of my team that never gives up. 8th place is not what we were aiming for, but we feel like winners nonetheless.”
On 16 November, the stage started from Cape Town to the west coast of Australia. A tough race of 4,800 nautical miles past the Cape of Good Hope and through the infamous Roaring Forties. The term ‘Roaring Forties’ was coined by sailors in the 17th century and refers to an area known for its powerful and persistent winds. Combined with big waves and choppy seas, the Roaring Forties are an iconic and highly respected sailing area.
