Carbon-neutral bio-inspired research vessel
The model of the carbon-neutral research vessel Esprit de Vélox was presented at the UN Ocean Conference in Nice. It will be a zero-impact ship intended for responsible research and conservation operations.
Initiator of the Objectif Océan programme, François Frey, hopes the ship can be launched in 2028. “We have achieved 95% of the total project picture”.
The ship is a means to an end, according to Frey: “A responsible and interdisciplinary approach to ocean sciences”.
The future large research vessel Esprit de Velox has now taken shape in the form of a 1:100-scale model, which was presented at the invitation of GICAN at UNOC in Nice and at the La Rochelle Maritime Museum on Friday 27 June.
The model is based on version 7.2 of the ship, following a new work cycle with VPLP architects and Groupe Zebra designers.
Esprit de Vélox itself is particularly laudatory of its own performance: “The ship’s environmental neutrality and energy autonomy are major strengths, allowing it to obtain clean data and carry out complex work. […] The programme is a triple world first for a ship of more than 500 UMS, wind propulsion and a carbon-free island renewable energy network. The structure is made of recyclable composite materials.”
