Sail cargo

Anemos after 15 days in New York

The first TOWT ship Anemos has made her first transatlantic crossing, from Le Havre to New York. On 3 September, the ship arrived in Newark Bay near New York City.

The crossing took just 15 days, 10 knots on average, with only seven crew members. According to initial estimates, it is 90% wind-powered. The ships operation and navigation are highly automated. As expected, some technical adjustments were needed especially in the first days. It had not been sailed with full load on big water before.

It was berthed at Ports of America’s car terminal. No cranes are available there for unloading pallets, but no problem: the Anemos is a ‘self-unloader’
The 1,100 tonnes of cargo consisted of French luxury products, mainly cognac and champagne.

On 4 September, a few hours were reserved for contact with the press, after which preparations for the next leg already started. On 5 September, the ship left early for Santa Marta in Colombia. At the time writing, she was sailing about the height of Florida.

From Colombia, the Anemos sails back to France with coffee.

The sister ship Artemis has now been delivered and is also being prepared for her maiden voyage. TOWT has six more of these ships on order cq under option. The last will enter service in 2028.
