BARTech enters partnership with Yara Marine

UK-based BAR Technologies (BARTech) announced last week that it has partnered with Yara Marine Technologies to design and implement Windwings worldwide.

The pair plans to market WindWings, large fixed wing sails with a height of up to 45 metres, globally. Mounted on the deck of bulk carriers, the system is expected to reduce the fuel consumption of bulk carriers, tankers and other large vessels by up to 30 per cent.

Yara Marine will manage the value chain of procurement, construction, installation, service and training for the specific product and offer it to ship owners around the world.
BARTech retains the commitment to continue developing the WindWings offering, the announcement said.
The two partners will start their collaboration by supplying WindWings on a Cargill vessel; expected to be installed next year.

“Wind propulsion is becoming increasingly important because of its high energy-saving potential and because it works well in any combination with other equipment and fuels,” said Jan Dieleman, director of marine transport at Cargill.
