Clean transport in sight on transatlantic route
United Parcel Service (UPS) has signed an agreement with Veer® to start shipping goods on the transatlantic route. Veer will now look for a partner to supply ships with clean energy.
UPS, a $124 billion company, has signed a multi-year Letter of Intent to start shipping packages cleanly with Veer on transatlantic voyages. This puts Veer just one signature away from unlocking its full business plan.
Veer is now looking for a major brand to power Veer’s clean ships. It is calling on companies to come forward. Those who transport goods between Europe and North America, and want to do so in a truly clean way, are invited to contact Veer.
Veer calls itself “A breeding ground for innovation in the heavy ocean industry, supported by a corporate culture based on equity, transparency and empowerment. By starting with a clean slate and working with stakeholders who support equality and the blue economy, Veer has an advantage over established shipping companies: the ability to quickly be the first.” Veer aims to bring the first clean container ship to cross the ocean on the water.
Danielle Southcott, founder of Veer Group, was named one of the most influential women of the past century by the Royal Institute of Naval Architects and named as an inspiring female founder to keep an eye on by The Ocean Opportunity Lab.
The Canadian started sailing at the age of 13. She graduated from the Enkhuizer Maritime Academy and learnt Dutch to graduate. She obtained her 200T Sailing Master’s licence at the age of 21, becoming a captain on Barbados’ flagship, the cargo schooner Ruth. Within Veer, she works with Dijkstra Naval Architects, among others, which is reflected in the iconic Ecoliner, which the company uses as its calling card.
Veer’s movement is driven by clean energy investors. Veer reports that in addition to UPS, it has found another investor, who has invested $200,000.00 by the end of 2024. “This mission-oriented investor has a shipping background and is deeply convinced of Veer’s importance and potential,” he said. Depending on details, the same investor has indicated that he is likely to invest another $300,000.00 in early 2025 to cement his belief in Veer’s business model and future.
Veer released a slick promotional video. The company can also be followed on Instagram and LinkedIn.
