Construction Young Endeavour II progresses

On the other side of the world, construction of the new barquentine for Australian sail training organisation Young Endeavour is finally gaining momentum.

Since 1988, this organisation, in partnership with the Australian Navy, has been providing sail training to young people aboard the eponymous ship.
The original brigantine is now 35 years old and has provided sail training in Australia since 1988.

The new ship will have a barkentine rig, with square sails on the foremast and a fore-and-aft main and mizzen mast.
The replacement has been designed in collaboration with Dijkstra Naval Architects. Given the originally planned launch in 2023, construction has been significantly delayed. However, with the recent turning of the hull, the launch is slowly approaching, although no expected date for the launch has been announced as yet.

The new ship will accommodate up to 42 junior crew members on each voyage. It will also be able to make more voyages per year, meaning more young Australians will have access to the training programme.
