New WASP coasters for Wilson AS

Wilson AS has introduced the Wilson Eyde, a new vessel that uses wind power to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions when transporting raw materials for aluminium production.

Wilson AS is Europe’s largest shortsea shipping company, with a fleet of around 140 vessels. The company offers charter services, ship management, trading, regional freight agency and logistics, and sustainability solutions.

The vessel is equipped with wind-driven propulsion, including VentoFoils modernised by Econowind, and AI-driven fuel optimisation that significantly reduces fuel consumption. The vessel transports liquid pitch, an essential part of anode production, from suppliers in Europe to Hydro’s plants in Norway.

Meeting tomorrow’s environmental requirements is crucial to our success. We are therefore determined and grateful to develop innovative solutions that not only reduce our environmental footprint, but also strengthen our cooperation with partners such as Hydro,” said Jostein Bjørgo, commercial director at Wilson.

The Wilson Eyde was commissioned on 14 April and serves Hydro’s production facility in Årdal, Norway. Named after industrial pioneer Sam Eyde, the Wilson Eyde replaces two older vessels.
