Order Windcoop is confirmed

A few days after announcing the construction of the Windcoop cooperative shipping company’s sailing containership, the order for three future CWS sails was confirmed by shipyard RMK Marine.

For French company CWS (Computed Wing Sail), this is the first order for its AirFin350 sails. This rigid composite material sail wing is thick, asymmetrical and folding. It is 21 metres high, has a surface area of 354 m² and can adjust its orientation on the side: the wing folds in, the top of the wing can then be grasped on the foot and the lower part can be folded up again. In this way, the wing flips over and the ‘concavity’ of the profile becomes starboard and port, depending on the wind direction. The wing can also be folded symmetrically when the wind becomes too strong. Finally, it can be fully laid on the deck.

CWS had announced in June 2023 the future opening of a factory in the port of Nantes Saint-Nazaire for the production of rigid wings in a 10,000 m² building on the site of the former fruit terminal, for an investment of 10 million euros. An agreement in principle was given by Bureau Veritas in October 2024.

As a reminder, French cooperative Windcoop announced in early April the construction of the world’s first sailing container ship at the Turkish shipyard RMK Marine. The vessel, with a capacity of 210 TEU, should start its rotations between France and Madagascar in summer 2027.
