The editorial team is expanding; who fancies it?
The ‘Posts’ are created by a small team, consisting mainly of committed volunteers who are past middle age. Rejuvenation and broadening are ongoing concerns. And so we are looking to expand our editorial team.
Many of the media with nautical information, shipping stories and nautical technology were started from love, from the passion for the sea and sailing. Wim de Bruijn (Spiegel der Zeilvaart), Eduard Rijnja (Zeilen) and Ruud Kattenberg (Zilt) are fine inspiring examples of this. Not that the makers of all that beauty got rich from it; sometimes there was money and sometimes not. But it always worked out well because the relationship in the editorial team was excellent; without contributors there would be no magazine.
At least two of the editors of Zeepost, Scheepspost and Windassist were able to build their livelihoods partly from that media past. That brought much satisfaction and sometimes lasting friendships.
After the death of Wouter van Dusseldorp, we came together to continue Wouter’s work. The editorial team consists of men who have many miles in the wake, have known social responsibilities and for whom the passion for sailing and the sea is in their blood. All that experience pays off, but has been accumulated over many years, which has put the age on the high side.
And now we are looking to expand this editorial team.
We are looking for people who share our passion, enjoy sailing and want to play a role in conveying all that beauty in our sectors. Not to get rich from it immediately, we just have to be honest about that. But with the support of the current editorial team, and the help of an enthusiastic board, there is an opportunity to firmly expand your network and your experience.
We mostly work from home, meet occasionally, but have a valuable synergy that we are keen to share and expand. Because as touched on above: a good team is everything.
What that requires? You are language proficient, computer-savvy, knowledgeable or eager to learn about sailing, shipping, environment, engineering or nautical policy. Moreover, it would be nice if we could bring the somewhat one-sided male-female ratio to a contemporary level.
In the recent past, we got offers from abroad to contribute to the news, but up till now that didn’t result in many articles. That is partly due to the field of orientation: we already get news about Wind Assisted Ship Propulsion from all kinds of sources, but lack enough input on the level of local initiatives and sailtraining or tallship travel stories. So, if you are able to produce that special kind of content, you are extra welcome.
In addition to being an investment in your own career, you will help give a new and fresh face to nautical heritage, charter shipping and wind-powered shipping through our media.
Sailing with good seamanship is always a challenge and so is the making of our three newsletters; what choice do you make, what course do you take and what do you yourself think is important. After all, the ‘Posten’ are evolving media, which in terms of formula, accessibility and design can still fully benefit from the input of committed new contributors.
Curious? We would love to get to know you. Register for an interview at redactie@zeepost.info with the message line: editorial team.
