Life-saving equipment course at Enkhuizer Naval College

On 1 July 2025, the new Maritime Crew Act came into force. For sailing, the main consequence is that officers must have a certificate ‘training life-saving equipment’ by mid-2026.

This can be the STCW course PSCRB (Proficiency Survival Craft and Rescue Boat) or the recognised STSV training developed by the EZS specifically for sailing (Safety Training Sailing Vessels).
The course requirement also applies to SPS vessels of <500GT. In addition, any vessel sailing after 1 December 2025 it is mandatory that at least one crew member has obtained the required certificate of competency on customised training life-saving equipment for sailing vessels.

So even if you still have a valid sailing licence, you must be able to present a certificate of competency PSCRB or life-saving equipment as an officer from July 2026.
The EZS course lasts two days. The cost is € 600 per person. The course includes components of Proficience Survivalcraft and Crisis management.

As the course is organised in small groups, it is wise to book early and not wait until later.
We will therefore start the first courses as early as this autumn. The dates now set for 2025 are:

  • October 31 – November 1
  • November 21 – November 22

Number of participants: maximum 12, minimum 8
